Since 2008, Shannon J. Effinger’s work has appeared in publications such as NPR Jazz, EBONY, DownBeat, JazzTimes, Caribbean Beat, The Revivalist (OkayPlayer.com), Time Out New York and Society HAE.

Effinger’s writing has highlighted many renown film & music festivals, both in the US and abroad–South Africa, Panama & Haiti, among other countries.

She has also written numerous profiles and conducted several interviews with some of today’s prominent figures: Quincy Jones, Whoopi Goldberg, legendary jazz artists McCoy Tyner, Randy Weston, Hugh Masekela, modern jazz musicians Marc Cary, Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah, Esperanza Spalding and Terence Blanchard, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, Jennifer Pryor (widow of Richard Pryor) and many more.
